For many many years the residents of Spa Road have accepted that the vehicle owners of Weymouth and Portland use this road as an 'alternative local route' and had been asking for traffic calming measures for well over three years.
Spa Road had been identified as having a significant number of accidents, mostly due to speed and a traffic survey taken last year supported this.
The Borough engineers had a huge response after a consultation evening earlier this year, the plans then went to an independent Road Safety Audit and the funding was specifically allocated to this scheme under the Local Transport Plan, partly from Council Tax and partly from Government funding.
If the completed scheme makes it more difficult for residents of Weymouth and Portland to drive about their daily business or think when negotiating the junctions and note the parked cars then it has done the job it was meant.
It has made drivers slow down and therefore made this road safer than it was.
