Residents who are interested in learning lifesaving skills to help people stay safe on the coast can enrol in a lifeguarding course over the coming May half-term break.

The course is being held from Monday May 27 to Friday May 31, with an assessment on Saturday June 1 and costs £120. Organisers say this also includes a year's membership of Surf Lifesaving GB (SLSGB), as well as assessment fees and course manuals.

Candidates must be over 16 when the course starts, and must be able to swim 400 metres (16 lengths) in under 7 minutes 30 seconds, and run 200 metres in under 40 seconds.

Interested? Pre-course timed swims are being held on Saturday March 9, Saturday March 23 and Saturday April 6, from 9-10am at Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland.
