LYME REGIS 4

WITHERIDGE 2

A FRED Parsons double capped a fine performance from Lyme Regis as they eased to a 4-2 victory over Witheridge in the Macron Devon & Exeter Premier Division.

Gary Knight and Ben Vine wrapped up the scoring for the Seasiders, while Ben Turner as able to make his return from injury late on.

Lyme started slowly and went 1-0 down after a ball into the box caused a goalmouth scramble, from which the visitors scored.

However, this woke the home side up, who were back on level terms after 15 minutes.

Parsons scooped a delightful ball into the top corner to equalise following good work from Cody Bowditch.

Lyme then went ahead 10 minutes later when Parsons received the ball inside the box, sidestepped a couple of defenders and tucked the ball in.

The Seasiders were able to hold their lead into the break, but came out firing in the second half to swiftly end the match as a contest.

Lyme were on top, but had to be wary of Witheridge’s very direct play.

Sam Jones was brought down on the edge of the box, and from the free-kick Vine curled an effort in that took a hit off Knight before going in.

Lyme began to tire on the tough pitch, with the substitutions allowing Ben Turner to make a return in place of Bowditch after 60 minutes.

Another substitute Daly Holmes was then brought down to hand Lyme a penalty, which Vine slammed in.

Witheridge had a penalty of their own late on, after the ball was fired at Kingsley Wellman for a handball, which the visitors tucked away.

As a result of the victory, Lyme stay fourth in the table.

Lyme manager Gerard Hitchcock said: “It was a decent enough result, they are just below us in the league. A 4-2 win, good enough.”

“Another three points on the board, keeps us in that top five. If we stay there I’ll be happy.”
