A DRUNKEN man who refused treatment and threatened staff at Dorset County Hospital diverted valuable hospital resources during a busy time, a court was told.

Joshua Frampton, 20, of Culliford Way, Weymouth, pleaded guilty to provocation of violence towards staff and members of the public in the accident and emergency department.

He also admitted a similar charge relating to his behaviour at Rendezvous nightclub in St Thomas Street, Weymouth, earlier that same night.

Elizabeth Valera, prosecuting, told Weymouth Magistrates Court that around 11pm on June 23 door staff at Rendezvous were radioed to assist with removing Frampton from the club.

Miss Valera said: "He clearly wasn't happy about being ejected and tried to break free from the doormen. He had his arms taken hold of to prevent him biting and spitting at them."

Frampton was taken outside the club where he started swearing and being aggressive towards the bouncers.

He made attempts to get back in the club before door staff enlisted the help of two policemen who were walking nearby.

Miss Valera said: "He became very aggressive towards the police officers and it took six people to restrain him and get him into the police van."

At 2.20am police officers were called to the accident and emergency department of Dorset County Hospital to deal with a man who was being aggressive towards staff.

When they arrived they were told Frampton had been swearing loudly and refusing treatment for a graze to the head.

He was eventually escorted outside by police.

Miss Valera said: "Staff were in no doubt he would have caused injury to himself or others had the police not taken action.

"It caused great difficulty in the hospital which was very busy at the time."

Frampton, who appeared in court unrepresented, said he could not remember anything about being in the hospital and found the account of his behaviour 'disgusting'.

He said: "I have no recollection whatsoever of that night.

"I had too much too drink, it's just a complete blank."

The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.

Frampton was bailed to return to court on November 5 for sentencing.
