A YOUNG hairdresser is buzzing after raising more than £1,000 for charity.

Cameron Lawrence, aged 17, from Weymouth, is an apprentice hairdresser at Hair Moda on Marsh Road.

He had his head shaved to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support on Saturday, February 23.

He decided to organise the fundraiser after the salon’s owner Diane Sadeghi was diagnosed with cancer.

On the day of the head shave, Diane attended the salon to shave Cameron’s head.

He said: “It was a normal working day, so I was working until around 3.30pm. I then went around and spoke with Diane to see if she felt up to it and she said she was feeling a bit better, so said she would do the head shave.

“She found it a bit emotional, but was so appreciative, she couldn’t thank me enough.

“My parents and girlfriend also came along it was really nice. They were all very proud."

Cameron added: “I was a bit worried, I thought I might have a bit of a square head, but luckily it looks alright.

“I prefer it now actually, it’s so much easier. My friends have been hitting me on the head a bit but yeah, they all like it.

“It was weird at the start, but everyone keeps saying I look like Justin Timberlake.”

Cameron told the Echo he raised £1,258 an impressive amount considering his initial target was just £100.

He said: “I was originally hoping to raise £100 so I was so surprised with the amount I managed to raise.

“A lot of people saw the article in the Echo and have been coming into the salon and talking about it. I also got recognised at my brother’s football game.

“All my clients, friends and family have been so generous. But it was mainly the clients who know Diane and have been coming to the salon for more than 20 years who contributed."

He added: “I’d like to say thank you to everyone who donated and shared the fundraising page.”
