VETERAN council watcher Eddie Farn has achieved one of his aims in life – getting the rubbish bin reinstalled on Westham Bridge.

Mr Farn, who turns up to ask questions at almost every Weymouth and Portland borough council meeting, has long campaigned to get the bin put back in place after it was removed during the course of recent works.

He was initially told that it would not be replaced because there was not enough litter in the area and not enough pedestrians crossing the bridge – which Mr Farn challenged.

But now the bin is back and Mr Farn, unusually, is delighted with the council.

“I'm here to congratulate you, for a change,” he told councillors at their last ever borough management committee meeting on Tuesday, “thanks for getting the bin back, it's been installed at last,” he said.

But in more typical style they went on to criticise a recent meeting of the shadow council in Dorchester he had attended as “the biggest farce under the sun.”

Mr Farn says he is now planning to be a regular attender, and questioner of councillors, when the new Weymouth Town Council comes into being following the elections on May 2nd.

Its first meeting is scheduled to take place at 7pm on Tuesday, May 14th.

Mr Farn has received public accolades on social media after his efforts over recent years were highlighted in the Dorset Echo. One Facebook page, dedicated to keeping an eye of council activities, said he should be awarded a medal.

He has also won praise from some councillors. Cllr Kate Wheller thanked him at a recent meeting for keeping councillors on their toes. She said all councils could do with more people like Mr Farn.
