HUNDREDS of children dressed up as their favourite literary characters to mark World Book Day.
At Ysgol Y Foryd, Kinmel Bay, pupils and staff got into the spirit. An assembly was held by Hannah Williams, deputy headteacher, who read her favourite book - Have you seen my giraffe?
Pupils from Ysgol Maes Owen, Kinmel Bay, also joined in the fun.
Nicola Rowlands, acting headteacher, said: "Ysgol Maes Owen junior school came to share their favourite stories with year one pupils and the junior children also read a Welsh story to our year two children.
"Year two pupils visited Ysgol Maes Owen to share their books with year three."
Pupils at Emrys ap Iwan, in Abergele, enjoyed a range of book related activities.
Learners were taught by Bert the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins; Where’s Wally, The Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Shakespearean Witches, two Gangsta Grannies and Seamus Finnegan from Harry Potter.
Teacher Kirsten Lorey said: "The staff shared their favourite books with learners and held discussions on how reading impacts our lives.
"Lessons with learners based on, ‘Banned Books’ provoked some interesting responses."
Children at St Asaph VP Infants also got in on the action.
A spokesperson for the school said: "The children brought in the books that featured their character to share with their classmates.
"The staff also got into the spirit of the occasion. Children were taught by Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Cruella de Ville, Wally, a ladybird and Mary Poppins."
Children and staff at Ysgol Llywelyn in Rhyl also donned some fantastic costumes.
World Book Day was held on Thursday, March 7.
