A DRINK-driver was caught after police were called to a crash involving his car, a court heard.

Alexander George Morgan, aged 36, pleaded guilty to driving while his alcohol level was above the limit when he appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court.

Police were alerted to a single car crash on the B3091 near Guy's Marsh - in which the car had ended up on the other side of the road - at 2.45pm on October 31 last year, magistrates were told.

Elizabeth Valera, prosecuting said that when police arrived an ambulance was already in attendance. She said: "[Morgan] failed a roadside test and was taken to hospital where they took blood due to his injuries.

"It came back as 140mg in 100ml of blood, 60mg over the limit.

"[Morgan] is interviewed at a later date when he makes a full and frank admission, he says the accident must be a result of the drinking."

Nobody else was involved in the incident.

Max Owen, mitigating, said: "Mr Morgan had recently taken up a new job...he had responsibility for 15 staff and this was something new for him. He was finding it very difficult and stressful.

"He was completely co-operative with the police, they say several times how full and frank his interview was."

Sentencing Morgan, chairman of the bench Judith Boichot said: "It is very much to your benefit that you have held your hands up and admitted the whole thing...we have taken this into account."

Morgan, of St James Street in Shaftesbury, was disqualified from driving for 17 months, to be reduced by 17 weeks if he completes a drink-driver rehabilitation course. He was also ordered to pay £235 in fines and costs.
