More than 1,000 runners will take to the streets of Weymouth this Sunday to take part in the town's annual half marathon event.

The race will set off from Weymouth Pavilion at 8.30am and the participants will then race around the 13.2 mile course.

The course will take the runners through the heart of Weymouth, taking in the stunning views of the Jurassic coastline and the spectator-friendly town centre.

There will be four drinks stations on the course, manned by local people and clubs. These are based at 3.5, 6.3, 9.1 and 10.9 miles.

It is a mostly flat course and is mainly on roads with a very small off-road section consisting of gravel, track and grass. A map of the course can be found on

There will be some road closures and also some road crossings where traffic management will be in place with a Stop/Go system to control traffic.

Alan Rose, the event director, said: "We are in our fifth year of the half marathon and this year we have had just short of 1,200 runners sign up. This is close to our record and we can still take entries on the day.

"We are working with the Weymouth Rotary Club as a way of raising money for the local charities that they work closely with.

"We are hoping that it will be a great day but it is obviously dependent on the weather. We have a lot of local people that have sign up but also people have been travelling down for this event so we are excited.

"There will be a team of 120 people working on the day to support the athletes and deliver the event. There should be minimal impact with road closures.

"We would love for people who aren't running to come out and support the runners, come out and give them a cheer."
