A YOUTH shelter is being lined up for a Dorchester park providing funding is available.

Members of Dorchester Town Council's recreation panel agreed that a shelter should be sited on the town's King's Road play area.

Councillors visited sites across the town during the summer to choose a suitable location and decided following a recommendation from police chiefs that King's Road was the best.

In a letter to the town council, Inspector Les Fry, section commander for Dorchester Police, said the site was more desirable than the alternative location at Salisbury Fields.

"After visiting the King's Road playing field site it is felt that this would be more desirable due to its location," he said.

Members agreed that this is where the shelter should be sited subject to funding, which deputy town clerk Steve Newman said was being looked into, by members of Dorchester Youth Extra, who had requested the shelter in the first place.
