Weymouth residents are reminded a number of roads will be closed tomorrow for a big running event.

The Weymouth Half Marathon starts at Weymouth Pavilion at 8.30am and participants will follow a 13.2 mile course which takes them up to Overcombe Corner, back to the town centre then out to Ferrybridge and back to town via the Rodwell Trail.

It will provide a great spectacle and crowds are expected to be out cheering on the runners. More than 1,000 will take part.

To ensure their safety, some roads will be closed while they pass through.

Preston Road will be closed between Melcombe Avenue and Overcombe Corner mini roundabout between 8.15am and 10am. A signed alternate route for traffic via the A353 and A354 will be marked out on the day.

The Esplanade will be closed between King's Statue and the Pavilion car park between 8.15am and 8.45am.

The area between Alexandra Gardens and the Pavilion car park will be closed between 8am and 12.30pm.

Access to Custom House Quay will be via Pilgrims Way, the exit to Devonshire Place will be via the Esplanade and the exit from the Pavilion car park will be via Custom House Quay.

There will be a manned crossing point on the Esplanade near its junction with Bond Street from 8.45am until 12.30pm.

Old Castle Road will be closed northbound between Sudan Road and Belle Vue Road from 8.45am to 11am.

Maiden Street and New Street will be closed from St Alban Street from 8.30am and 9am respectively until 12pm.

There will be manned crossing points across St Edmund Street and St Mary Street and Commercial Road at Lower St Alban Street running between 9am until 12pm.
