A new post office branch will be opening at Londis Harbour Stores in Weymouth.

The store will be undergoing a refit before the new branch opens towards the end of this month.

Phil Cox, the store’s owner, said: “We applied to become a post office branch years ago, but at the time they had no vacancies in the area.

“They came back to us last year to see if we would still be interested in opening a new branch and we jumped at the opportunity.

“We are pleased that our application was accepted and to be opening a new branch.

“When a lot of businesses are closing on the high street, it’s good to have some positive news with new businesses coming to the town.

“We are really quite excited to be offering another service to our customers. It’s another string to our bow.

“We have had positive feedback so far. People are pleased to have another option. The other post office is always very busy and is at the other end of town.”

Mr Cox added: “There are great things happening around the South Harbourside with New Businesses opening. The Loco Lobo Tex Mex restaurant and the Harbour Library Cafe, Secret Garden Cafe and the South Harbourside Community group, which was formed last year to help to try to improve the area. It has already helped organise new events, including Christmas in the Square, which was a great success and will become an annual event. “

“We’re hoping that the post office will not only help our business grow but will enhance the area for residents and other businesses, the icing on the cake will be the Brewers Quay Redevelopment.”

The new post office branch will be opening on Monday, March 25 at 1pm.

It will be open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm.
