BED RUN: Fundraiser prepare to set out on a five-mile charity bed push around Bridport and West Bay.
The 17-strong party donned fancy dress for the stunt, in aid of the Bridport Young Persons Action Trust and the Bridport Alzheimer’s Disease Society.
DEVELOPMENT CONCERNS: Worries over the choice of Gore Cross as a site for industrial development at Bridport have been expressed by the new chairman of the West Dorset group of the CPRE.
Michael Horniman feared an estate would also be visible for miles and argued that it would be better placed in Pymore. But he admitted this would not please Pymore residents.
UNITARY AUTHORITY: County council deputy leader Robin Legg has been ‘reassured’ that a large Dorset unitary authority could be the outcome of the current local government review.
Chairman of the Local Government Commission Sir John Banham told Mr Legg a new all-purpose council covering the whole of Dorset except the urban south-east corner could be a possibility.

MAYOR REJECTION: Bridport has a mayoralty problem. Councillor Archibald Beckett Mason, who heard in mid-Atlantic that the town council had chosen him to succeed Alderman Harold Smith as chief citizen, declined the invitation when he returned after a five-week cruise to the West Indies.
The council is to meet again in a bid to find someone who is prepared to take over as mayor in May.
DRUNK CYCLIST: Police called to Dottery on March 3 found a man sitting on a bank tangled up with a bicycle.
The sequel to the discovery was the appearance at Bridport Court of David Sutherland Graeme. He was fined £1 for being drunk while in charge of a pedal cycle.
WI BIRTHDAY: West Bay WI celebrated its 44th birthday with a dinner at The George Hotel.
After an excellent meal, members still had energy to spare for a programme of hilarious games organised by Mrs J. Mayling and Mrs I. Hatto.
The sherry in which toasts were drunk was given by Mrs A. Harwin and Mrs M. Holt.
