A man has made himself known to police and is helping them with their enquiries following a CCTV appeal.

Earlier today, police released an image of a man they wanted to speak to regarding a possible sexual assault in Weymouth.

At around 4am on Sunday, March 17, Dorset Police was alerted to concern for the welfare of a woman on Weymouth beach near The Boat Café opposite The New Vic Bar and Restaurant. The 18-year-old woman was taken home by officers.

A police investigation was launched to establish whether any sexual offence took place.

Following enquiries, police this morning released an image of a man they wanted to speak to in relation to the reported assault.

As the CCTV appeal was launched, Detective Constable Jacqui Gravenor, of Weymouth CID, said: “The man pictured in this CCTV image was seen in the area and we would like to talk to him to see if he has any information that could assist my investigation.

“I would ask the man pictured, or anyone who recognises him, to please contact Dorset Police."

A man has made contact with detectives today and is assisting with their investigation. No arrests have been made.
