WEY VALLEY school governor Keith Puttock saddled up for the first time in 20 years to raise £1,000 to help send pupils to India on a charity mission.

Mr Puttock, 57, of Knightsdale Road, Weymouth, took part in a 1.5-mile hunter trial at Moreton on a Chestnut Mare called Romance.

Mr Puttock said: "I fell off twice during the ride. It was a 325-metre per minute (optimum time) hunter trial with 10 1ft 6in fences. But I got back on and was delighted to complete the course."

Kate Addison of Lanehouse Equitation Centre described Mr Puttock's achievement as 'remarkable'.

The money raised will go towards sending 16 pupils to Calcutta for 17 days from Boxing Day.

While there the youngsters will be helping the street children under the Don Bosco Ashalayma Project.

They aim to donate at least £2,000 to the project.
