At the Skills Festival 2007, we interviewed Mark Courtier, a lecturer who teaches Horticulture at Kingston Mauward College.
With 35 acres of gardens, he has a variety of jobs to do as well as teaching. Some of these jobs include building different structures, planting and using machinery.
To be this skilled he has a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Horticulture. It takes 4-5 years to become fully qualified in this expertise. He has been working at Kingston Maurward College for 20 years.
He went to the Skills Festival to get the message across to people that Horticulture isn't just about plants, it involves a wide variety of professions, often people want a job change to get outside in the open.
If you are interested in Horticultural activities Mark suggests: "Try to involve yourself in a Horticultural job for Work Experience."
