Pupils at Bincombe Valley Primary School raised more than £2,500 for an NSPCC programme designed to help vulnerable children.

The NSPCC ‘Speak out. Stay safe’ programme is a free service for schools aimed at teaching primary school aged children to recognise signs of abuse and neglect in child friendly language. Through assemblies and workshops it helps them identify a network of trusted adults that they can speak to and also introduces them to Childline.

Sharon Kay, NSPCC Schools Organiser for Dorset, said: "We hope to create an environment where children feel confident to ask questions and speak out about any worries or concerns they may have.

"The programme has been very popular and well received and has now been delivered at over 90% of primary schools in Dorset.

"Bincombe Valley Primary School were kind enough to support us with an extended programme which included a sponsored fundraiser and they had great fun with an Obstacle Colour Run. The community really pulled together to make the event successful and the children raised an astounding £2,829. We were overwhelmed by the commitment and support of all involved in making such a huge effort to help vulnerable children."

Kate Critchell, PSHCE subject lead at Bincombe Valley, said: "We held a sponsored 'obstacle colour run' in our school grounds. The children had to come to school dressed in brightly coloured clothes and run around an obstacle course as many times as possible in 45 minutes. Every child took part and had a great time doing it.

"Parents were very supportive and helped the children to get sponsorship from friends and family. The grand total of £2,829 was way beyond what we were expecting. We are really proud of all the children for supporting the event."
