A drone was reportedly seen flying over Swanage Railway.

Swanage Railway said it had received reports of a drone being flown in the area of Corfe Castle on Sunday morning.

It is a criminal offence to fly a drone on, over or within 50 metres of the railway or within 150 metres in built up areas.

Network Rail says anyone found to be in breach of this could be taken to court and face a penalty of up to £2,500.

Swanage Railway urged the operator to crease flying the drone within the restricted area and said the matter was being reported to Dorset Police.

The appeal came as hundreds of railway enthusiasts flocked to Swanage Railway to see the Flying Scotsman locomotive haul trains in yesterday’s glorious sunshine.

It has been operating five services each day between Swanage and Norden non-stop since Friday.

The much-loved train is running on the Swanage Railway until tomorrow.

It will then spend two weeks on static display at Corfe Castle station from Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased to board the 60103 loco and the Devon Belle Pullman carriage, known as Car 14.

The A351 was jammed as crowds headed to Swanage . Roadworks at Norden added to delays.

And queues of around an hour were reported near the Sandbanks chain ferry.
