Comments that Prime Minister Theresa May made about Brexit three years ago have been plastered on an advertising board in Weymouth.

Led By Donkeys, a group describing itself as four dads who want to "shine a light on the forgotten lies of our leaders" using their own words, has brought its campaign to the town by splashing a quote from Theresa May across a billboard in Abbotsbury Road.

The billboard features Mrs May's Twitter profile, with the words: "I believe it is clearly in our national interest to remain a member of the European Union."

It comes from a speech made by Mrs May as she addressed an audience at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in April 2016, before the EU membership referendum.

It appears to poke fun at Mrs May, who has faced a backlash over her Brexit strategy.

And it's not the first time that Led By Donkeys have come to Dorset. In February, remarks about Britain's exit from the EU made by Boris Johnson were put up on a billboard in Christchurch.

Also featuring Mr Johnson's Twitter profile, organised more billboards in Christchurch.

A member of the Led by Donkeys group said: "We want our billboards to highlight to the people of Dorset the fantasies we were all told by the politicians who persuaded Britain to vote leave. We’re using the politician’s own words against them and letting people make up their own minds."

Led By Donkeys have so far organised more than 250 billboards across the country and gained a huge following online. They also launched a successful crowdfunding campaign which has raised more than £250,000, money which is put towards legitimately paid-for adverts.
