Weymouth's well-loved Punch and Judy show will be back this year.

Mark Poulton is the man behind the slapstick comedy puppet show that has graced Weymouth since the 1880's.

In September there were fears that the show would not go on for this seaside tradition, as a crowdfunding page was set up to help with running costs.

Mr Poulter said that a shorter summer season, caused by schools not allowing pupils holiday during term time, was one of the main reasons behind the shortfall, as well as the hot summer putting people off walking along the beach to watch the show.

However, Bagwell Farm Touring Park in Weymouth has come forward to sponsor Mr Poulton with a pitch so that he has somewhere to stay during his trips to Weymouth.

Mr Poulton said: "I'm absolutely delighted. We're not out of the woods yet, but it's very positive. Bagwell have sponsored me with a pitch so I have some place to stay so that is absolutely amazing. They have really really come up trumps.

"It's something that we are going to evaluate every year and make a decision, but I will be back this year in the summer.

"People have been getting in touch to offer help and to say how pleased they are that the Punch and Judy show will be back.

Karen Kennedy, the park manager, said: "The Punch and Judy show is such a huge Weymouth tradition and always draws a big crowd so we wanted to help keep it going.

"I don't get to get out much during the holiday season but I try and get down to watch the Punch and Judy because his show is excellent."

Updates to follow.
