A shop worker who wanted to drum up support for a charity to mark a landmark birthday has gone way beyond her original target.

Sue Moore, Deputy Manager of the CLIC Sargent shop in Weymouth, marked her 60th birthday last May by challenging herself to collect 60 bags of stock for the shop in a year.

However, she has done such an amazing job, and has now collected significantly more than the original 60 bags hoped for.

Sue said: “I now have 310 bags of stock and would like to amend my target from 60 to 365, one for every day of my 60th year.

"I have until May 11th when I will be 61 to reach my target, so I am looking to Weymouth residents for their help to help me with the remaining 55 bags."

She added: "I really appreciated the support of the Dorset Echo for their help with my appeal last year, which made a big difference, so thank you.”

Tracy Stagg, Manager of the CLIC Sargent Shop said: “It was a great idea of Sue’s to celebrate her 60th birthday by getting so many bags of stock for the shop.

"The unwanted clothes to someone else are so valuable to us and 365 bags of stock is potentially worth over £9,000 to us."

She added: "I know myself the turmoil that families go through when they have a child diagnosed with cancer. CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly for young cancer patients and their families, providing essential support. Southampton General Hospital is the nearest principal treatment centre for Weymouth young cancer patients and £9,000 could pay for nine families to stay a month each in our “Home from Home” Jean’s House in Southampton, enabling families to stay close together.”

If you would like to help out Sue to reach her new target of 365 bags for the year, drop off a bag of unwanted clothes or books to the shop in St Thomas Street, Weymouth and say they are for Sue.

The shop also welcome enquiries about volunteering.
