MORE than 100 men and boys aged from six to 86 took part in the Piddle Dash to raise money for a prostate cancer charity.

The 6km sponsored walk or run began at Puddletown Rugby Club at Piddlehinton and all the money raised by participants went to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation.

There was also a raffle and auction to raise money for the treatment of prostate cancer at the urology department in Dorset County Hospital.

The event was organised by Donna Russell and helpers Sally Voss and Margaret Cosh, and attracted 111 men and boys supported by their families.

There was also a good representation by local health officials including GPs and nurses. The run was formally opened by Mr Naveed Afzal, a prostate cancer specialist and consultant urologist at Dorset County Hospital and Winterbourne Hospital.

Mr Afzal said awareness of prostate cancer is increasing and hopefully many more lives can be saved by organising similar events in the future.

The Piddle Dash is now to become an annual event.
