MORE than a dozen community groups are interested in taking space in a building in Rax Lane which will be run by the town council.

The Grove was previously used as a social care office and, up until 2013, as a furniture shop, but has been vacant since 2016.

A lease for the mid 18th century listed building is now held by the town council who plan to use it for office and community use, subject to planning permission.

In an application for change of use the town council says it has received fifteen requests for space within the building and its associated 20 car parking spaces.

Town councillors said earlier in the year that they would let out the building to cover the costs of the 30-year lease and plough any profit back into the community.

One contender for space may be the town’s museum which has to move some of its archives out of a damp store.
