A JOBS boost could be on the cards for Dorchester with an application for 22 commercial units at the Parkway Farm business park.

The units, if approved, will be the third phase of development on the Duchy site, which is between Middle Farm Way and the town’s bypass.

It has been submitted by Woodpecker Properties which has businesses addresses at Avon Close in Weymouth and Holtwood, Wimborne.

The proposed units are to be in a similar style as those already there – red brick with black timber cladding, and vary in size from 93 square metres to 166 square metres, arranged in terraces and detached units. All 22 are proposed to be single storey but with the capacity to later add a mezzanine floor.

The planning application estimates that around 75 additional parking spaces could be provided adjacent to the units, with a dozen or more spaces for cycles.

Dorchester town council planning committee has raised no objection to the proposed units although a final decision will be made by the new Dorset Council.

There has only been one public comment about the application which calls for an archaeological investigation before work begins, claiming that the remains of a middle bronze age enclosure was found just to the west of the site when the town’s bypass was under construction in the 1980.
