THE Dorchester based Fordingtons group has expanded again and it now offers a specialised blind service.

The company started 15 years ago and includes a building firm, a windows and conservatories firm, a furnishings and lighting store and an estate agents.

Mike Lingham, 30, of Stratton, joined the company a month ago to manage the new Fordington Blinds service after more than 10 years of experience in the blinds industry.

He said: "We want to really push the boundaries of the blinds business by offering our specialised range of blinds that come with a comprehensive design and fitting service."

"What we are doing is very different because we are filling a niche in the market by offering a wide spectrum of blinds from household blinds to electrical awnings and motorised designs."

Mr Lingham previously lived in Bridport where he started his first blinds company and his second was amalgamated to form Fordingtons Blinds.

Fordingtons's Alington Road showroom has been expanded to showcase the range of blinds alongside the existing range of windows and conservatories.

There will also be a display at the award winning Fordingtons Conservatory Village in Goulds Garden Centre.

The range of blinds available includes wooden Venetian, verticals, Romans, conservatory and plantation shutters.

Mr Lingham said: "Fordingtons is well-known locally and the blinds business will fit in as part of a comprehensive package very well."

He added: "We are keen to point out that although we are part of the Fordingtons brand we are not exclusive so we can cater to all different conservatories and windows."

Fordingtons owner John Manley welcomed the appointment of Mr Lingham.

He said: "We saw a gap in the market for a local company to provide quality conservatory, shutters and awnings.

"We are sure that Mike and Fordington Blinds will be a great success."
