A ZERO-EMISSION Explorer micro-yacht stopped off in Weymouth and Lyme Regis to promote the benefit of low carbon living.

Sailor Mukti Mitchell is taking his hand-built 15ft boat Chance on a six-month voyage around Britain as part of a Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour.

The tour aims to visit 40 ports including Swansea, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, London and Southampton to promote a life that creates less carbon dioxide.

Mr Mitchell, a boat builder and carpenter from Clovelly, North Devon said: "We were just in Weymouth for one night and stayed on the boat at Weymouth Sailing Club.

"The boat took about nine months to build. It has no engine, only sail and oar, and was nominated for the Innovative Boat of the Year 2005 at the IPC Media British Marine Awards."

Mr Mitchell also stopped off at Seaton and Lyme Regis to host talks and events displaying low-carbon products.

On Tuesday he visited Seaton Primary School, Seaton Co-op supermarket and took his tour to Woodroffe Secondary School and the Co-op in Lyme Regis before giving a talk at the Marine Theatre.
