SAILING instructors from the borough will be swapping sails for oars when they row 100 miles for a disabled charity.

The Laser Team's annual fundraising event will see them take on the challenge of rowing from Oxford to Kingston in three days - covering approximately 100 miles - from next Thursday.

All the money will go the Sailability charity which enables disabled people to achieve the self reliance that sailing can bring and feel the exhilaration of being on the water.

The Weymouth team will consist of Matt Bridge, Rob Paveley, Emma Dawson, Dawn Delpech, while general manager Neil Coxon will be sailing for the Northampton team.

Despite being used to water sports, the instructors are expecting that rowing 30-plus miles a day will take them out of their comfort zones.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the team can visit www.justgiving.com /laserrow or drop into the Sail Laser office at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The fundraiser follows seven visually-impaired sailors competing in the RYA Sailability regatta at the borough's Sail Laser centre.

Crews, with varying experience, were made up of two visually-impaired sailors and one sighted crew member. The two-day event had a varied training and racing programme overseen by RYA Sailability Racing Coach George Barker.
