MENTAL health charity Mind runs a fortnightly peer support group in Dorchester for anyone aged 18 or over who wants to look after their mental health.

The group’s focus is to educate people about common mental health issues like stress, anxiety and depression, how to spot the signs and symptoms as well as finding helpful ways of coping and improving them.

The sessions are run on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from 7 – 9pm at Age UK, on Prince of Wales Road, Dorchester and people are welcome to attend on a drop-in basis – participate as much or as little as you like.

The group activities and events are identified, discussed, negotiated and agreed in partnership with group members. Some sessions start with guided-relaxation which is followed by share-time for people to share their experiences and access peer support.

Following a short refreshment break (tea and coffee will be provided at 40p per cup) there is an educative workshop exploring topics such as food and mood; developing self-compassion; silencing the inner critic; what is mindfulness?; challenging negative thinking; building self-esteem; music and mental health; alternative therapies; exercise and neuroplasticity and goal setting.

Sessions cost £3 – £5 depending on your circumstances.
