All Saints Church Choir is busy rehearsing for its Easter concert.

The choir will be joining the Portland Singers for a performance of John Stainer’s Crucifixion on Good Friday.

The concert will be held at All Saints Church in Wyke Regis at 7pm.

The choir will be conducted by Dennis Lackenby and renowned local pianist Duncas Honeybourne will be playing the organ.

The work is scored for mixed choir and soloists. The bass soloist will be Martin Wicks and tenor soloist Peter Thorne, both members of the Portland Singers. The piece combines recitatives, solos and masterful choruses that range from the graphic mob shouting ‘Crucify Him’ to the ethereally beautiful meditation at the centre of the work, ‘God so loved the world’.

There will be no charge for admission and the choir hopes as many people as possible will join them on the evening.

Members of the choir also came together for a belated winter social.

The choir had hoped to have the meal in December but had been too busy over the Christmas and new year period that it was postponed, so that as many members of the choir as possible could attend.

The meal took place at the Marquis of Granby on Friday, March 29.

A spokesman from the choir said: “The staff at the Marquis were very attentive and food excellent so a good evening was enjoyed by all.”
