ART fans can get their hands on original work by local talent whilst supporting a good cause this spring.

Coming soon to Dorchester is an exhibition to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare, being held in Poundbury during May and will feature works by over 60 different artists.

According to organisers at Art Gallery SW there will be opportunities to meet the artists, with all commission on sales going directly to Weldmar.

The exhibition is free and is being held on May 10 from 10am - 4pm and May 11 from 10am-5pm, at Dorchester Community Church, Liscombe Street, Poundbury.

Organisers say it’s a unique opportunity to buy original works from a wide variety of emerging and established local artists, using a broad range of mediums and genres.

One artist on the roster of exhibitors is Moira Hazel from Dorchester who has been creating art for many years using oils, pastels, acrylics and watercolours, and whose work features landscapes and still life, as well as a varied collection of contemporary designs.

Another is Christine Rogers, who is a member of the 'Artwey' collective: a community of artists from Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.

Christine Rogers said she mainly works with acrylics as they lend themselves well to the subtleties of the ever-changing mood and colours of the landscape.

“Dorset has an abundance of inspirational subjects, but my passion at the moment is painting the sea", she said.

"Living so close to the coast I’ve had the opportunity to study water in its many moods - I like to look at my subject from unusual angles, focusing on its patterns and movement.”

Also exhibiting is Kim Pragnell, a watercolour painter whose seascapes and landscapes are influenced from her time in the Royal Navy, and Weymouth-based painter and printmaker Sylvia White, who said she is "never lost for inspiration" thanks to Dorset's beautiful countryside.

Weldmar Hospicecare is the largest independent charity in Dorset, providing end of life care and specialist support for people living in the county.
