FOOTBALLING legend David Beckham has been causing a stir during a visit to Weymouth and Portland.

The former England captain - who celebrates his 44th birthday today - has been spotted in various locations around the area.

One resident, ornithologist Martin Cade of the Portland Bird Observatory Field Centre at Portland Bill, will have made several locals very happy when he passed around his binoculars so people could catch a glimpse of the star, who was with 20 year-old son Brooklyn.

Mr Cade said he spotted the pair at Pulpit Rock on Portland Bill, accompanied by an entourage and film crew.

It is believed they were on the island to film a commercial for David Beckham's skincare brand.

"I was out bird watching at Pulpit Rock when I saw David Beckham - I was really surprised," Mr Cade said.

"There was smoke billowing, dramatic lighting - it was quite entertaining to watch.

"My daughter who is 13 was captivated and immediately looked him up on Instagram.

"She said 'it can't be David Beckham, he was in Spain yesterday' - but then we looked through my telescope and sure enough it was him. He was mainly posing for the cameras - I expect he was being directed to look a bit moody.

"There were around 30 vehicles in total parked out at the Bill carpark - three massive TV trucks, infrastructure, catering facilities - all the paraphernalia you could possibly imagine.

"They must've had a budget in the hundreds of thousands."

The dad-of-four - who is married to former Spice Girl-turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham - is no stranger to the area.

In June 2015 he enjoyed a spot of fishing with Brooklyn - then aged 16 - along with film director Guy Ritchie.

The trio sent locals into a frenzy when they were spotted boarding a fishing boat on Weymouth harbourside.

During this most recent visit, David Beckham also dined at a Weymouth restaurant.
