OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 1

LYME REGIS 3

LYME Regis produced a superb performance despite a tough wind, to beat Okehampton Argyle 3-1 and maintain their fight for fifth in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League.

The Seasiders are currently three clear of Witheridge Seconds who are just behind them in sixth, but Witheridge have played a game less.

Lyme started poorly and went 1-0 down following a Josh Tickner strike, after a clearance from Lyme goalkeeper Will Meech got caught by the wind and held up for Tickner to fire straight back and over Meech.

However, 20 minutes later, good play between Natham Womersley and Cameron Fowler, the latter crossed in for Fred Parsons to nod in.

Ben Vine added a second as Lyme then took the lead before the break.

Womersley capped a fine performance with the third goal 15 minutes into the second half to seal victory.

Lyme boss Gerard Hitchcock said: “It was a bit of a typical end of season game with not a huge amount riding upon it really.

“They are not the greatest side in the world and it was a really windy day.

“It has been a decent enough run for us, I am quite happy with where we are.”

Lyme Regis will aim to finish on a high when they host Feniton in their final game of the season on Monday (3pm).

Lyme: Meech, C Bowditch, Knight, Rowe, Fowler (B Bowditch 80), Turner, Fellingham, Parsons, Vine, Bond (Jones 65), Womersley (Andrews 75).
