Trains travelling on the Weymouth to Waterloo line may be affected by delays due to urgent tree works.

Due to a precarious tree between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central, all lines are blocked.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 4pm today.

South Western Railway said: "We have been informed that there is a precarious tree near the railway. In order to preserve the safety of the railway, this tree must be felled. To ensure this is done safely, power to the railway will be turned off and no trains will be able to run through the affected area until this work is completed.

"This work is now underway and is anticipated to take approximately one hour. However, when trains resume running, trains will be subject to alteration and residual delays in order to minimise disruption caused by this precarious tree.

"If you are at Southampton Central and require trains towards London Waterloo, please use these services to Salisbury or Portsmouth Harbour where you can use other SWR services to complete your journey.

"We have arranged replacement buses to run on the following routes:

"Replacement buses have been requested to run between Southampton Central and Bournemouth. These buses will not be running to a fixed timetable.

"When trains are able to resume running, Cross Country ticket holders will be permitted to use their tickets on our services.

"For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."
