TV personality Mr Tumble - otherwise known as Cbeebies presenter Justin Fletcher - was mobbed by children when he officially opened the new Bradpole Pre-school.
The presenter stayed an hour cutting the ribbon and the cake and being hero-worshipped by 30 under-fives - and a few of their parents.
Parent and organiser Sara Hudston said: "He really is an absolute hero to the under-fives. He cut the ribbon, cut the cake and spent an hour talking to the children and having pictures taken with them.
"Everyone was very impressed by how kind, gentle and friendly he was with the tinies."
Mrs Hudston said the pre-school has settled in well at the Sir John Colfox School, where it leases a classroom, but it needed a shed to store the outside toys in.
