WELL, as bets go it was worth a punt, particularly at the outrageous odds, but that’s £10 I’ll never see again.

Sadly, Anakim Embodiment Perdisian Kinzoku was not the name chosen by Harry and Megan for their first-born, opting instead to go for the rather more conventional Archie Harrison.

But, on a happier note, they are the names of the four bands playing at another night of top quality metal at Finns in Weymouth next Friday, May 17.

The hard-working weirdos at Realms of Wrongness Promotions have simultaneously pulled out all the stops and their collective fingers from their delightfully manicured posteriors to offer up a cracking night of bowel-voiding rifferama and punishing blast beats.

First up are local legends Anakim who have been frightening the horses round these parts since 2011, and the band will be letting new frontman Howlin’ Matt S off his chain, so be warned.

Bristol-based melodic tech metal enthusiasts Embodiment have a sound so deep, dark and dangerous it actually screams out of their amps sporting a beard and full-face tattoo. The band claim influences from such bands as Necrophagist and Decapitated, so they seem a right hoot.

Thrash metallers Perdisian are promising a sonic tsunami all the way from their hometown of Yeovil while five-piece extreme metal outfit Kinzoku hail from Brighton and tell me: “We have always aimed to be the heaviest and tightest band we can be with an explosive arsenal of fast riffs, solos, blast beats and monstrous vocals.”

It’s just three of your English pounds on the door next Friday, from 7pm, so get there early and be prepared to be musically thumped right in the chops, okay?

Moving on to more relaxed and sedate event, and there’s a treat in store tomorrow night, Saturday May 11, at Portesham village hall when four of the region’s most talented  and popular musos get together for a right old knees-up.

Robbie McIntosh will be joined by Ken and Lucy Watkins and Simon Swarbrick for a masterclass in delightful harmonies and jaw-dropping guitar niftiness.

There are just a few tickers at £14 left so be quick and get yours from 01305 837299. There’ll be a bar and a selection of fine cakes, so that just about seals the deal for me as far as I’m concerned.

And finally,  it’s hats off and high fives all round for the team behind the relaunched John Gregory pub at Southill in Weymouth.

I’m hearing they’ve done a top job refurbishing the pub and what’s more they’re hosting their first night of live music for some years with the mighty Speedway Snails and their inflatable guitars playing there tonight, Friday May 10. One not to be missed, that’s for sure!

Till next time…
