Dorset’s richest residents have been named on the latest Sunday Times South West Rich List.

Former Weymouth Grammar School pupil Mark Constantine, and wife Mo, the founders of Poole-based cosmetics company Lush, saw their fortune increase by £150m to a total of £440m,

The Hon Charlotte Townshend is worth £456m.

This is a £4m loss since last year - but Mrs Townshend - who owns parts of Chesil Beach and Abbotsbury Swannery - is unlikely to be feeling the pinch.

Her assets include an estimated 15,000 acres of land in Dorset, plus 20 acres of property in west London and other parts of the country.

Weymouth resident and New Look founder Tom Singh OBE saw his family fortune drop by £30m to £340m this year. However the fashion chain is turning its fortunes around, having recently slashed its debt by around £1 billion.

Bournemouth resident James Benamor is Dorset’s richest man, worth £800m - an increase of £420m from last year.

He is CEO of financial services company The Richmond Group and made his money by founding Amigo Loans in 2005, and was featured on Channel Four’s Secret Millionaire.

At the bottom of the list, Andrew and Christina Brownsword still have a comfortable fortune of £297m - an increase of £2m for the family, who made their money through greetings cards and hotels.

They live in Bath but are the benefactors behind the Brownsword Hall at Poundbury in Dorchester.

Robert Watts, the compiler of The Sunday Times Rich List, said: “The days when the Rich List was dominated by fortunes built only from industry, property and finance are long gone.

“Today’s list includes people like Mark and Mo Constantine, who made their money from soap and bath bombs.

“A lot of people say the rich only ever getter richer, but our South West Rich List shows that isn’t always true.

“Seven of the region’s 20 wealthiest individuals and families have seen their wealth fall over the past year.”
