Voices is the Dorset Echo's weekly youth page - written for young people by young people.

When we have birthdays we usually celebrate them but we still have to be grateful, as some people don’t get presents or get to see their family, like the homeless.

You can have big parties, or small parties, you don’t even have to have a party. You could take a friend out or have a nice day with your family. Some ideas include pottery painting, arcade, sleepover, cinema, play date or even a disco. It can be whatever you want, just make sure it makes you happy. Express yourself and your creativity.

Chloe loves to play sports like rugby and football and Katelyn is arty and loves to draw and paint.

Gifts come in all different sizes, some can be small and a lovely fantasy or huge and a wonderful dream. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received or would like to receive? Chloe says her phone because she likes technology. Katelyn says Disney World because it’s her favourite thing and she loves Disney.

You probably will be really excited the day before so make sure you get some sleep so you can be all hyper the next day for your birthday. I suggest you have a lie in so you and your parents aren’t grumpy when you get up on your birthday as you don’t want to get tired and then forget to be grateful and polite even though it’s your birthday, as you don’t want to get your parents angry on your birthday.
