If you or someone you know is looking for mental health support in Dorchester, help is at hand.

Wellbeing in Mind is a fortnightly support group for anyone aged 18 or over who wants to be mentally healthy, and offers an accepting and supportive environment.

The group’s focus is to educate people about common mental health issues like stress, anxiety and depression - including how to spot the signs and symptoms as well as finding helpful ways of coping with them.

Organisers say they aim to reduce stigma by normalising conversations about mental health, via peer-to-peer support. The group encourages people to talk about wellbeing challenges or triumphs with others who share similar experiences.

Although therapy and counselling are not provided, the group can help provide details of local services.

At the start of each session, group activities and events are identified, discussed, negotiated and agreed in partnership with group members.

Some sessions start with guided relaxation which is followed by share-time for people to talk about their experiences and access peer support.

The sessions run for two hours on a drop-in basis – people are welcome to participate as much or as little as they like.

The group is help on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 7 – 9pm at Age UK, Rowan Cottage, Prince of Wales Road, Dorchester.
