A volunteer organisation that assists the emergency services is asking for your nominations to help it win £1,000.

Dorset Search and Rescue (DorSAR) is encouraging people to nominate them to be in for a chance to win £1,000 as part of Ecclesiastical's Movement for Good awards.

DorSAR was founded in 2004 and currently has around 80 volunteer members. Available 365 days of the year, the team can deploy anywhere in the county within 90 minutes of being called upon.

Called into action through Dorset Police, DorSAR can offer considerable resources to support the county's emergency services in time of crisis. They predominantly assist with missing persons enquiries but can also help with major incidents and at crime scenes.

Ecclesiastical, a specialist insurer, launched the Movement for Good awards which will award 500 charities £1,000 each.

It’s quick and easy to nominate DorSAR online. Nominations are open from Tuesday, April 23 to Friday, May 17 and you can vote for DorSAR at

. Winners will be drawn at random and the more times DorSAR is nominated the more chance it has of being selected.

A spokesman for DorSAR said: "This money would help to purchase important items of highly specialised equipment for our team of professionally trained volunteers.

"DorSAR is encouraging everyone to use their social media channels to ask people to vote for them to give the charity the best possible chance of winning.

"In 2018 we spent a total of 2476.5 hours on live callouts, 2211 on training and 987 hours raising funds to keep our organisation going and support the Dorset members of the public and communities that they live in."

Mark Hews, group chief executive at Ecclesiastical, said: “Trusted by our customers for over 130 years, we are proud to protect the irreplaceable – charities, schools, churches, homes and communities - right across the UK and abroad.

"As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of our business. Our Movement for Good awards will help charities change lives for the better and we know that for many charities, £1,000 can make a real difference.”

DorSAR is a registered charity, number 1121658.
