PARKS, gardens and other greenspaces are likely to account for more than £1million of the new Weymouth Town Council’s £3million-plus budget for the year.
The council is also likely to spend almost £168,000 on agency staff, although most of these are seasonal.
Figures which will go before town councillors for their first meeting on May 14 also show £536,000 running costs for the beach and events, £395,000 for public toilets, £105,000 for the Commercial Road HQ and £824,000 in central costs.
The majority of the greenspaces budget, of £1,097,335, is accounted for by staff costs of £779,574; premises £220,485, transport £192,417 and supplies and services £193,524.
Employee costs for the beach and events come to £301,800 with £454,000 for supplies and services and £268,598 for premises.
Central costs of £824,423 are mostly the cost of wages amounting to £632,923 with supplies and services adding £191,500.
A further break down of some of the figures shows £88,233 on agency staff for the beach and another figure of £79,716 for agency staff for greenspaces. There is also a payment £275,928 for contracted services for the beach and esplanade; £22,666 for RNLI lifeguard cover, more than £5,000 to meet the cost of vandalism; £73,321 for events and festivals and £12,300 for twinning activities.
£29,000 is shown for councillors allowances and £6,000 for councillor training.
On the income side rents and licences are expected to bring in £238,508 with £30,000 in advertising.
