Fire crews were called out after washing placed on a cooker caught fire.
Two crews attended following reports of smoke at a property in Queens Avenue, Dorchester.
A spokesman from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was caused by washing being placed on an electrical cooker hob.
"Shortly after arrival crews confirmed the small fire in the kitchen had already been extinguished prior to their arrival", they said.
The incident happened at around 6.20 yesterday evening.
Firefighters left the scene by 6.49pm after clearing the smoke from the property.
