Police have been stepping up patrols in suspected hot spots of drug related activity in Weymouth town centre.

Weymouth and Portland officers have responded to a number of comments from members of the public about suspicious activity at the junction of St Alban Street and St Mary Street in Weymouth.

On Friday, May 17 the force posted a message on Facebook to say: "We get lots of comments about activity at the junction of St. Alban Street and St Mary Street. We've been patrolling this lunchtime and will continue to check the area throughout the afternoon."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "This relates to reports we have received from the public in relation to suspected drug related activity in the area, we are therefore increasing our presence in response."

Officers also confirmed they had been checking behind the Tesco store on St Thomas Street after reports that there had been similar activity in that area as well.

Weymouth and Portland Police then posted a picture of an officer at the scene to show the public that they have been actively responding to these reports.
