Dorchester and District Lions Club held its annual Fun Run in and around the town.

More than 150 runners entered the 10km timed run around Maiden Castle, with 60 runners, joggers walkers and wheelchair users of all ages taking part in the family 2km Fun Run around Poundbury.

Organisers believe almost £8,000 was raised for local charities at the event.

Notable participants include Carol Bancroft, who is a regular at the Fun Run in her finely decorated wheelchair.

Dorchester Lions say they were proud to welcome Graham Curtis to the event, who also took part in his wheelchair.

Mr Curtis was accompanied by consultant Dr Jennifer Graves and colleagues from Dorset County Hospital, raising money to buy ultrasound equipment used in the diagnosis of patients with pleural diseases.

This year's guest of honour, who officially started both runs, was Sister Augustine, who had travelled from Falmouth to take part again this year.

She has been coming since the second Fun Run in 1984 and has raised more than £30,000 for her own favourite charities, including the Dorchester Poverty Action Group and her local hospice in Falmouth, as well as donating to Dorchester Lions' charities.

This year marks the 37th annual event, with over a quarter of a million pounds raised since it started and more than 11,000 women, men and children – and some pets – taking part.

Andy Rose from the Dorchester Lions said: "We thank all those who took time out to participate in the Fun Run again this year.

"Entrants had a good time - even though the 10k runners and 2k wheelchair pushers had to work hard to negotiate their respective challenges.

We especially thank our volunteers who marshalled on the day and our sponsors whose financial support helped to offset the cost of this non-profit making event which raised funds for local charities and good causes."

Member of Dorchester Lions say they are now planning a charity golf day at Came Down Golf Club on September 18.
