TWO Dorset councillors with the surname Legg are working together for the first time – despite both giving many years of public service.
Having the same surname caused a little confusion, for a few moments, at the new unitary council's first meeting with them also sitting side by side.
Weymouth's Upwey and Broadwey councillor Howard Legg and Sherborne Rural's Robin Legg have both served on local councils for many years – but never together on the same council at the same time.
“Until now we've just missed each other. When I came off the county council Robin came on and I think it also worked the other way round at one point,” said Howard Legg, a former Weymouth and Portland Lib Dem Borough Councillor who has just returned to politics after a break. He also sits as a Weymouth Town councillor.
Robin Legg, also a Lib Dem, has been a county councillor and also a former West Dorset district councillor. He also serves on his town council representing Sherborne East.
