Emergency services worked together for more than five hours to rescue a man on the edge of a cliff.

Dorset Police were called at 7pm last night (Monday) to reports of a man on Burton Bradstock cliff.

A spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report of a concern for welfare in relation to a man on the edge of the cliff along Cliff Road in Burton Bradstock.

“Officers attended and remained at the scene for a number of hours while they engaged with the man.

“He was brought to safety at 12.37am on Tuesday and taken to hospital to receive the appropriate care.”

Due to the nature of where the man was, West Bay Coastguard was called to assist Dorset Police.

A spokesperson for West Bay Coastguard said: “The whole team was alerted on Monday evening by Solent Coastguard to support police who were dealing with an incident on the cliffs at Burton Bradstock.

“Back up was requested and our colleagues from Lyme Regis Coastguard were also sent to assist.

“Whilst on scene, the West Bay officer in charge liaised with police and a technical roped safety system was set up to secure police officers, with coastguard edge safety officers deployed in support.

“Due to the length of the tasking, further coastguard assistance was requested and our colleagues from Wyke Coastguard were sent to assist with fresh officers and much needed sustenance.

“The incident was resolved by police in the early hours of the morning and all teams were then stood down to return to station.”
