A woman captured the magical moment a man popped the question to his bride-to-be on Weymouth Beach.

The video showing a man down on one knee has been shared hundreds of times on social media.

Now the couple whose precious moment was captured on film are being sought.

Martha Sivewright, 23, from Weymouth, took the video on her mobile phone whilst walking her dog along the Esplanade last Friday (May 17).

She said: “I live in the town and was walking my dog late on Friday about 8pm when I saw the man down on one knee.

“It was quite a miserable day, so I wasn’t expecting it. It was kind of raining at the time and my dog kept pulling the lead, which is why the video is a bit blurry.

“I was walking past the beach pedalos when I looked up and saw him.

“I thought I’ve got to film it, it was amazing. I have never seen anything like it before. It was so nice and I was genuinely so happy for the couple.

“She was ecstatic. He put the ring on her finger and you could tell afterwards she was glad he did it, she kept looking at her hand and then they started hugging each other. She was definitely shocked, it looked like she was laughing in disbelief. She couldn’t believe it.”

Miss Sivewright said the beach was ‘empty’ at the time and she was one of the only people who got to see it.

She added: “I wanted to go over to them, but dogs aren’t allowed on the beach this time of year, so I put the video on social media. It would be so nice if the video gets to them. It’s got more than 100 shares on Facebook. It’s quite unexpected because that’s never happened to me before.

“People have been saying how they think it’s really cute.”

This isn’t the first time a wedding proposal has been inadvertently caught on camera in Dorset.

Back in 2017, the Echo reported how a woman filmed a wedding proposal at Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast.

Tracey Hollis-Rowe, aged 44, was photographing the landmark when the couple came into view.

The Echo then ran an appeal to find the happy couple.

Harry Rolph, 27, later confirmed girlfriend Eleni Kostantaki, 31, said ‘yes’ after he went down on one knee at Durdle Door.
