There will be an explosive end to this weekend as fireworks light up Weymouth Bay.

A Mayor's Celebration Fireworks Display has been organised by Weymouth Town Council to recognise the formation of the new authority.

Mayor of Weymouth Graham Winter has been busy promoting the free event which will take place at 9.45pm on Sunday.

The return of summer fireworks will be welcomed by families flocking to Weymouth for the holiday weekend and half-term next week.

Make sure you get tomorrow's Echo for your chance to win £500 in a competition organised by the town council with support from Alexandra Gardens Pleasure Grounds. The completed entry form must be brought to Alexandra Gardens and the draw will be made on the seafront at 9.30pm on Sunday before the display.

The Danter funfair will be set up on the Pavilion forecourt over the bank holiday weekend and throughout half-term (open 2pm-10pm) – also see tomorrow's Echo for your half-price fairground voucher which is valid on Saturday and Sunday.

Weymouth Town Council Clerk, Jane Biscombe said: “We are delighted to announce the hosting of a fabulous seafront firework display. The display will be host by the Weymouth mayor and recognise the formation of the new Weymouth Town Council.”

The weekend will see a number of great events including Fayre in the Square as well as gig racing in Weymouth Bay, the Dorset Tour at Lodmoor Country Park, and a 1940s Home Front Family Weekend at the Nothe Fort.

Fayre in the Square, organised by the Rotary Club of Weymouth, is back for the sixth year offering free family entertainment in Hope Square and along Trinity Road on Saturday and Sunday.

The musical acts will perform on the live band stage from 10.30am until 6pm on both days.

There will be around 40 stalls showcasing an array of food and goods.

Entry is free but organisers request that visitors make a donation so proceeds can be donated to good causes.

Also for music fans, the Quayside Music is back on Saturday and Sunday with a big stage set up outside the Rendezvous on the harbourside. Performers include Komakino, The Dolmen, and The Recks.

The forecast is for a dry weekend with sunny spells.
