Earlier this week, we ran a story on how there is 'not enough room' at South Walks House for Dorset Council meetings once seats are set aside for the public.

Here's what some of our readers thought.

The public should be able to attend these meetings and County Halls Council Chamber is massive in comparison to South Walks House. Some costs may apply to restrict access to the building for these meetings, It's good evening meetings can apply now so the public can attend these meetings. mumofthreedorset

Not everyone can get into the House of Commons. But you can watch the excitement, and behaviour (!) on TV. The councillors are supposed to represent us, the paying public, and that is what they should do. Don't waste even more money on using an old facility, which is no longer necessary. Demolish it and use the space for social housing. Critically

How is it possible to guarantee access? This week 20 people want to attend, next week its 2000. Without knowing how many wish to attend well in advance how is it possible to arrange a suitable venue? firelighter

If it is only once a week that there is a full council meeting, then not much point in keeping a room that is too big for normal meetings. quince two

The answer is quite simple. Reduce the number of councillors and save money.

The meetings should be live streamed and put onto YouTube so that we can all have a laugh. Plus it would fit in with their 'climate emergency' policy by reducing the use of carbon and pollution caused by people attending meetings. It might also make the councillors more accountable for their actions. Truth to Power

The simple fact is this, the huge room used in south walks house could very easily be turned into office space. More staff could be moved into there from old costly to maintain external buildings, big cost saving.

The purpose built council chambers in the colliton park building would cost a fortune to convert to office space and is best served as a council chamber. For a very low cost the meetings could be streamed for public viewing if required and there is plenty of viewing space available for those who want to attend. Clearly south walks house is not fit for every purpose. Dorset stuff

Did they not knock down a church the other week, that would have made an ideal meeting hall for the council, and it was just across the car park from the council building. WeyoutDorch

There were 33 public seats. Anything beyond that would have exceeded the fire regulations for the building. There were probably 150/200 people on that floor and people are up in arms that you can't chuck an extra 50 people in there! If the fire alarm goes off, you're going to have a stampede and people being trampled over. Coeus1
