A former cabaret star is hoping to inspire a new generation of performers in his role as the head of a performing arts school.

Anthony Steventon, 32, is the new principal of Stagecoach Performing Arts Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury.

He has taught at several Stagecoach schools and joined Stagecoach Shaftesbury as a dance teacher in 2013, helping open Stagecoach Blandford in 2015. He has led specialist workshops at various Stagecoach schools.

He studied performing arts at Weymouth College, specialised in dance and completed a BA in theatre and performance at the University of Plymouth. He has performed at venues including the Minack Theatre and Sadler’s Wells, danced with the Cabaret Club in Athens and worked with the entertainment team on the cruise ship Princess of Norway.

He said: “I’m buzzing with excitement at the opportunity to build a strong, creative syllabus that will challenge the talented children of Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury, whilst being fun, educational, stimulating and rewarding for them.”

The Blandford and Shaftesbury operation is in a network of more than 1,800 extracurricular performing arts schools worldwide.
