A colourful and bubbly weekend in Weymouth has raised an incredible £45,000 for Weldmar Hospicecare.

Sadly however, organisers have announced the Colour Run and Bubble Rush was the last one.

Instead, a 'new and exciting event' is planned for 2020.

A total of 1,500 people took part in last weekend's events at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth, tackling the inflatable obstacles, and getting covered in powder paint or running through bubble stations as part of ‘Dorset’s Brightest Weekend’.

The Bubble Rush involves taking on a 4km course while passing through ‘bubble stations’, at which participants are covered in colourful foams.

The Colour Run is another course where participants scramble through inflatable objects and get covered in colours.

Since being introduced in 2015, the Colour Run and Bubble Rush has raised a total of £320,000.

Abi Shirley, Major Events Fundraiser, says, “We would like to give a massive thank you to all the runners and their friends and families that came along to support our last ever Colour Run and Bubble Rush weekend.

"Everybody I spoke to had such a wonderful time.

"These events would not be possible without the continued support of not only the participants, but our wonderful volunteers and local bands and food stalls who kindly gave up their weekend to come and be a part of both events”.

Organisers would like to thank Colour Run sponsor Magicard for its continued support, Tesco Dorchester for supplying bottled water for the runners, and Wessex Water for the use of water supply to produce the Bubble Rush bubbles.

Weldmar Hospicecare provides high quality care, love and support to patients and their loves ones across Dorset. This care is provided completely free of charge in the comfort of patients own homes, through the wellbeing services or as inpatients and Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.

It is said the £45,000 raised this year will pay for 90 patients to be cared for in their own homes by Weldmar’s community nurses.

Commenting on the decision to end the Colour Run and Bubble Rush, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Weldmar Matt Smith said: "We’ve been running these events for five years and many participants are looking for something fresh and new – so, based on feedback, we are currently working hard to deliver a new event in Weymouth over the same weekend next year."
